AMD also presented its new products on January 4, 2022. Among others, new processors, notebook graphics cards and a desktop GPU.
AMD 6000 Series Mobile Processors
AMD guarantees that the new 6000 processors for laptops will offer leading performance, battery life and new technologies. Starting with a Zen 3+ core that offers industry leading performance/watt. Also, for the first time, there are RDNA-2 graphics on the laptops, powered by an AMD processor. It's on the same graphics IP that powers the latest consoles, gaming PCs and even Teslas.
The AMD processors are of course also credited with the highest standards, such as DDR5 ram, USB4 and WIFI 6E.
During the presentation, there was also talk of the fastest processor in the Ryzen series, with a 5GHz boost clock and 2x faster graphics units.
AMD Radeon RX 6000S
This graphics unit is specially made for notebooks with optimized power efficiency and new performance/watt technology, according to AMD. Also unveiled on the same day were 6 different Radeon graphics units for gaming laptops.
AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT
This graphics card is supposed to keep up with the NVIDIA RTX 3050. According to AMD, this is the best graphics card in terms of game clock with 2.6 GHz in the price range. However, it only has 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM and can barely keep up with the RTX 3050. It also needs 107 watts, 17 watts more than the RTX 3050, but it is cheaper than the 3050 and costs "only" $199. It will be launched on the market on January 19, 2022.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
The main focus of this 8-core processor was on the competition. Compared to the Intel Core i9-12900K, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D achieved up to 17% better results. However, we have to note that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is specifically designed for gaming. The Intel Core i9-12900K is better for rendering and content creation with its 16 cores. According to the AMD CEO, we can expect the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in spring 2022 at a price of around $500.
Zen 4
A processor that has never been seen like this before. You'd think you'd destroy it if you tried to water-cool the thing. Based on 5NM technology, it's supposed to deliver "incredible performance," according to AMD's CEO at the launch. However, there was hardly any mention of the specifications. All that was seen was that the Zen 4 is supposed to run on a new socket, the AM5, which relies on the LGA system (famously from Intel). It is supposed to support PCIE Gen 5 and DDR5. A bit of gameplay footage was also shown. It was said that during this demo all cores were running at 5 GHz. We can expect the processor in the second half of this year. A price was not mentioned.
