After a law was passed by the Indian government in August 2021 to push the production of smartphones in the country, Apple is now producing more in India. 85% of all smartphones sold in India are produced in the country. Previously, nearly 90% of all smartphones were imported from China.

This law has created 50,000 direct jobs at Apple's suppliers. Over 100,000 indirect jobs are also said to have been created.

Samsung also benefited from this law and created 11,500 jobs.

The Tata Group, also a major supplier to Apple, plans to create 45,000 jobs over the next 18 months.
