China's battery manufacturer CATL ramps up production in Germany

Chinese battery manufacturer CATL is ramping up the production of its batteries in Arnstadt today, even though the political future between Germany and China is uncertain.

The 14 gigawatt-hour factory can produce up to 30 million battery cells for EVs. That would be about 350,000 electric cars powered by a 40 kilowatt-hour battery. Most of the raw materials for the batteries are currently imported from China.

However, the political future between China and Germany is uncertain. The German government is developing a strategy to reduce its economic dependence on China.
