Computer outage brings thousands of flights to a halt

The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) had to stop all takeoffs of flights in the U.S. today due to a computer failure.

More than 6,000 flights were delayed and 1,000 were canceled. Aviation in the U.S. suffered a severe setback after the FAA prohibited any takeoff permission because a computer failed overnight.

The number of postponed and canceled flights continues to rise. The FAA denies any takeoff clearance because safety information cannot be given to the airlines. No evidence of a cyber attack has been found so far.

Meanwhile, some flights were allowed to take off again in the U.S. but traffic was not fully resumed. The FAA is investigating the case.
