The EU today issued a ban that prohibits all members of parliament and employees of the European Commission from having TikTok on their government phones.
The EU wants to ensure the cybersecurity of the institution in this way, as there is a fear that China could access this data. The ban is in place for both business and personal phones of employees and members of parliament.
The EU did not answer whether it was involved in a data scandal with TikTok. TikTok is responding to this ban. The Chinese social media app thinks it's a shame the EU didn't contact the company beforehand.
Last year, the US put a similar law into effect. All members of the House of Representatives and the Senate are not allowed to download the app.
