Indonesia is incentivizing the sales of 200,000 electric motorcycles and 35,900 cars, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said at a news conference. Indonesia is expected to use the incentive to expand local production of electric vehicles and make use of nickel reserves in the country.
These incentives include price reductions on vehicles sold of up to $5130. The U.S., Netherlands and France are offering similar subsidies.
Companies can take advantage of these incentives starting March 20. However, companies must have a plant in Indonesia to be eligible for these incentives. South Korea's LG and Hyundai have started construction of battery and electric car factories in the country.
