Oerlikon consolidates its 3D printing production in the USA to benefit from a robust growth market and favorable conditions.

International technology company Oerlikon is planning a strategic realignment of its Additive Manufacturing business segment, with a primary focus on concentrating production in the USA, the largest growth market for this innovative technology.

The decision stems from the limited growth prospects in the German Additive Manufacturing market. Production will be consolidated in Huntersville, North Carolina, to ensure proximity to American growth markets, especially the semiconductor industry.

The relocation of existing production sites in Barleben and Shanghai is scheduled for 2024 and will be done in close coordination with existing customers. European and international customers will be supplied from the USA in the future.

Simultaneously, the research and development site in Garching will continue, with a clear focus on new modern materials, advanced coating technologies, and digitization.

Additive Manufacturing is a central business segment of Oerlikon's Surface Solutions Division. Started as a startup, the company develops and produces innovative 3D applications for industries such as aerospace and the semiconductor industry.
