Mark Zuckerberg launched it a few months ago: The Metaverse. But what is behind it? How does it work? And above all, is Meta the only company that wants to create such a universe?
The Metaverse is a virtual reality in which you can meet with your colleagues. At the time of home office, Zoom meetings are not exactly the most breathtaking thing around. That's why they are trying to create a virtual reality, similar to VR chat, to create the most pleasant atmosphere. In addition to work, there should also be recreational facilities in which you can meet with colleagues. Just virtual.
To get the most out of the Metaverse experience, it's a good idea to get a pair of VR Headset. This way you can look your colleagues in the eye, type on a virtual keyboard or see visualizations better. Just like in real life, simply with a VR Headset. Fitness should also be possible in the Metaverse, such as basketball or boxing. But how exactly that will work remains to be seen.
Meta is actually not the only company building a metaverse. Epic Games, Tencent, NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft and many more are creating the best possible virtual reality experience. Of course, all companies are dealing with different areas. Microsoft, for example, is looking at work-related virtual reality.
However, it will be a while before we have a working prototype of the Metaverse. Meta has the best chance of creating the first Metaverse. Because of their Oculus headsets, social media networks and creators, the company can bring the first prototype to market within 2-5 years.
