The U.S. accuses Seagate of violating export rules

The U.S. accuses Seagate of violating export rules by selling its hard drives to a blacklisted distributor.

The USA has already introduced stricter export laws under President Trump. The main focus was on the Chinese company Huawei, which can no longer do business in the US due to many sanctions imposed by the Americans.

Seagate, however, has violated this regulation. Between August 2020 and September 2021, Seagate is said to have sold hard drives to Huawei, which is against the law. Seagate apparently did not have a license from the U.S. government to sell to Huawei either.

Seagate, however, denies this allegation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). That's because, from the company's perspective, products that are manufactured abroad and not in the U.S. (and also don't have the technology in the U.S.) are not part of the law.
